This is a special Typewriter gifted to me by my pal, Tom. (Yes, that Tom)
He brought it with him during his last visit, signed it, and told me to “Sell that thing and buy some more!” So… that’s what I’m doing. :)
Tower typewriters were a Sears exclusive run of machines made by well known manufacturers and rebranded under the Tower name between 1949 and 1963. Various manufacturers were used, but the most popular were the Smith Corona varieties. This particular machine is a Smith Corona 5 series under the hood, and performs just as beautifully as one could ask for. The pica typeface is both professional and easy on the eyes at 10cpi.
The paint is an interesting almost pink, almost flesh tone, but somehow works and compliments the burnt umber keys and platen knobs. The case is in good condition as well, and one of the Smith Corona “Holiday” cases with a typewriter locking frame that can be removed to utilize the case to go “on holiday”.
I went through the machine in depth, it’s in very good mechanical condition. I did not clean the exterior of the case given its provenance, I did clean. oil, adjust and made a few minor repairs the actual machine.
Smith Corona Typewriters were(and are) a fine example of American design and quality. A true writers machine; if it was sold by Sears, it was guaranteed to last!
A very cool typewriter that’s a joy to look at, and will be a great addition to any serious collection. (Tom also signed the interior of the case)

Has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled lightly in the spots that are supposed to be, and serviced by someone that LOVES typewriters.
