Gold Plated Olympia SM3 Portable

Olympia Pica Typeface (10 CPI)

*I’m a firm believer that like people, certain things have a way of being in your life exactly as long as they’re supposed to be. That’s why I continue to sell machines I intended to keep forever.

Gold plated Typewriters are an anomaly. To the generations that grew up using them, the idea of such a thing would be like a gold plated fax machine or printer. They exist, however.

The Olympia SM series are arguably some of the finest ever produced. After a few sentences typed on one, it’s pretty easy to understand why they continue to be in high demand even now.

This one was a difficult machine to acquire for obvious reasons.

There were only a few companies to do this, and Olympia tends to be one of the rarest to encounter as there’s no evidence to suggest the gold plate was ever offered to customers- as was the case with Royal. Olympia seemed to be a little bit pickier with their golden eggs, given to top sales associates, or gifts to executives within the company for milestones.

The SM3 became the template for Olympias future in the portable Typewriter world. Improvements were made as the years progressed, but the base design remained largely the same.

It is an excellent typing machine, the pica typeface(font) is classic, professional, and easy to read at 10 character per inch. The action is quick, tight, and the carriage shift has been adjusted to be light as a feather. It has a brand new platen recovered by the fine folks at J.J. Short & Associates, so the imprint and feel is as close to what it was intended to be in 1956 as possible.

Aesthetically, it’s simply stunning. The antique white crinkle paint is in fine condition. The gold plated accents that would typically be chrome have definite wear, but I chose to keep the machine original versus having it replated. I’m a fan of patina, and it can only be original once. The distinct silver “panzer” case is in good condition as well. It latches as it should, and makes a good companion for this beautiful machine. *If you’d like more photos, please email at nashilletypewriter@gmail with 24k in the subject line.

If you’re looking for a beautiful example of German engineering, you cannot go wrong with an Olympia SM, and this one was owned by someone that not only works on Typewriters, but LOVES them. It has been a cherished part of my personal collection, but I am sure it will end up in the right hands.

This is NOT an "as-is" typewriter. It has been lovingly cleaned, serviced, and thoroughly tested to ensure it'll hang with you for decades to come if properly treated. In addition to the new platen, the frame bushings have been replaced, feed rollers rejuvenated, alignment adjustments made, and all pivot/friction points cleaned and oiled.

It comes with everything you see in the pictures and more;

YOUR CHOICE of;

A BRAND NEW solid black or red/black bicolor ribbon available in cotton or nylon mounted on vintage metal spools, a reprinted original owners manual, the typewriter, its handsome hammered silver hard case, an OFFICIAL Nashville Typewriter sticker and hand-typed note from me, the typeface text sample, and even a stack of vintage paper and stationary to get you started on your path to analog independence and distraction-free writing! *I’ll throw in another ribbon as well!

Shipping is FREE in the continental US via UPS ground shipping, international quotes available upon request.

I want GOOOOOOOOOOLD!
