The Olympia SM series are some of the finest portable Typewriters ever produced. I’ve been in awe of them after acquiring my first years ago, and am still taken aback by their quality. They’re beautifully aesthetic, have a snappy, satisfying feel, and are just tough as hell.
The SM3 became the template for Olympias future in the portable Typewriter world. Improvements were made as the years progressed, but the base design remained largely the same. SM3s are consistently on the top 10 lists of best portable Typewriters ever made. After a few sentences typed on one, it becomes very clear why they’re so widely renowned.
This two tone beauty has been stripped, cleaned, adjusted, and is ready to write! It has new frame bushings, rejuvenated feed rollers/feet, all the pivot & friction points cleaned & oiled, A N D a brand new platen recovered by the fine folks at J.J. Short & associates!
It is a STUNNING example of this model, and a very nice typing machine. The classic elite typeface(font) is crisp, professional, and concise at 12 characters per inch. The action is quick, tight, and the carriage shift has been adjusted to be light as a feather. The paint is in great shape- some signs of use here and there, but nothing that detracts from the overall aesthetic of the beautiful mid century design.
The distinctive hammered silver “Panzer” case is admittedly worn & has a repaired crack along the top left side. But is still handsome, and continues to do a fine job of protecting this beautiful old Typewriter.
If you’re looking for a beautiful example of German engineering, you cannot go wrong with an Olympia SM.
This is NOT an "as-is" typewriter. It has been lovingly cleaned, serviced, and thoroughly tested. With proper care and use, it will continue to tell stories for the next 70+ years. Will you? :)
