Olympia Pica (10 cpi)

It’s no secret that Olympia’s are my favorite brand…

There are specific Typewriters I like more, but Olympia is MY BRAND.

The reason for this is the amount of thought that went into the creation of these amazing machines is mind-boggling. German precision, consistency, and a stunningly handsome, classic design that holds up well even now. The SM series is arguably one of the best ever made, and the SM8 marked a new era for Olympia portables.

Olympia finally went to a basket shift machine with the release of the SM8 and SM9. The SM8 was marketed as a “budget” machine alongside the SM9 that lacked some of the extra features most the Deluxe versions had. The differences are pretty minor- manual TAB stops and paper rest, painted carriage end plates versus chrome, and lack of touch control for the keyboard. (which is by most accounts almost strictly a marketing shtick, the feel of the keys is barely discernable.) The basket shift mechanism makes extended writing periods comfortable by the ease of the shift.

I can’t explain why, but for some reason seem to prefer the SM8 to the SM9. It is arguably the exact same machine under the hood, but for some reason it seems to feel a little quicker. Maybe the lack of touch control? Platen is in wonderful condition, still soft and has been rejuvenated along with the feed rollers.

The action is like most SM’s, quick, snappy, and consistent. The case is in wonderful shape, a very handsome companion for a great machine. It is mechanically as nice as you could ask for, very quick, very precise, all functions perform flawlessly.

This is NOT an "as-is" typewriter. It has been lovingly cleaned, oiled, serviced, and thoroughly tested to ensure it'll hang with whatever you decide to write with it.

It comes with everything you see in the pictures and more;

Your choice of a BRAND NEW solid black or black/red ribbon on vintage metal spools(installed) available in cotton or nylon, a reprinted original owners manual, the typewriter, an OFFICIAL Nashville Typewriter sticker and hand-typed note from me, the typeface sample, and even a few sheets of paper to get you started on your path to analog independence and distraction-free writing!

A true writers Typewriter- quick, precise, and capable of taking ANYTHING you throw at it.

Free shipping in the continental US, quotes available for international clients.
