1937 Remington Model 1 *NOISELESS*
Elite - 12cpi
Noiseless machines are interesting...
While not quite “noiseless”, the distinctive thrust action of the typebars results in a vastly quieter performance than traditional front strike machines. This was one of the most commercially successful portables Remington ever sold, the quality of the build and distinctive curves make that of very little surprise.
This particular machine is absolutely stunning, it was extremely well cared for.
The mechanics are tight, the paint is virtually flawless, the performance fast and consistent. It has a different feel from most Typewriters, the slugs barely touch the platen during typing which makes for a unexpected “phut” versus a “clack”. When thinking about a noiseless Typewriter, it’s helpful to consider a suppressor for a firearm. Often those are referred to as “silencers” which is incorrect(and impossible!). Their purpose is to suppress the noise of the report so it’s not as noticeable. A noiseless Typewriter is the same concept. It’s not silenced, but it’s suppressed.
The urge to strike the keys too hard is overcome once you get used to the action, and while I typically use a cotton ribbon for these, nylon works quite well for the elite typeface.
The case is in really good shape as well, and still does a wonderful job protecting such a beautiful machine. The original leather handle is intact, latches still latch, and overall does a fine job protecting this machine for travel and storage.
It comes to you fully cleaned, serviced, and ready to write with everything you see in the photos and more;
A brand new solid black or red/black ribbon available in nylon or cotton on original Remington metal rings/spools(installed), a reprinted owners manual, the stunning typewriter & its handsome hard case, an OFFICIAL Nashville Typewriter sticker and hand-typed note from me, the typeface text sample, and even a bit of paper to get you started on your path to analog independence and distraction-free writing!
FREE shipping in the continental US, quotes available for international clients upon request.
